What happens with 2024 legislative session now over

Monday, March 11, 2024

During the 2024 legislative session, Senate Republicans worked hard to pass meaningful legislation that will improve the lives of Hoosiers across Indiana.

This year, the Indiana General Assembly passed four Senate Republican priority bills that aim to help improve Hoosier students' reading skills, increase the number of child care providers, ensure state government is a good steward of taxpayer dollars and speed up replacement of lead water lines.

Bills approved by both chambers of the General Assembly now head to the governor's desk for final consideration.

Once a bill arrives on the governor's desk, he will have seven days to either sign it into law or veto it. If he does not sign the bill in those seven days, the bill becomes law.

While the 2024 legislative session has come to an end, work will continue in the months ahead as senators start preparing for the 2025 legislative session.

Many legislators will meet in Interim Study Committees later this year to discuss potential legislation.

Senators will also continue to meet with constituents throughout the months ahead to discuss potential legislation to file next year.
