Statement from State Sen. Jon Ford

State Sen. Jon Ford (R-Terre Haute) made the following statement following the conclusion of the 2023 legislative session:

STATEHOUSE (April 28, 2023) – "Legislation we passed during this year's legislative session will have a positive impact on Hoosiers for years to come.

"I am proud to see Senate Enrolled Act 265, which I authored, receive widespread bipartisan support this year. This legislation will help thousands of Hoosiers get out of poverty by expanding eligibility for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program in Indiana.

"TANF offers families a hand up, not a handout, as it offers job training, child care and transportation along with financial assistance to those in need.

"I am also pleased to see Senate Enrolled Act 1 pass the General Assembly in an effort to tackle the mental health crisis in Indiana. This measure will receive $100 million in our next state budget to help ensure Hoosiers in crisis will have someone to call, someone to respond and a safe place to go.

"These initiatives, along with the passage of another balanced budget, are prime examples of why Indiana will have continued success for years to come."
