STATEHOUSE (Sept. 12, 2025) – State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) chaired the first meeting of the Interim Study Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources on Thursday, Sept. 11.
The committee discussed the economic value of public land and its impact on the economy, small businesses and tourism.
During the meeting, the committee heard testimony from the Department of Natural Resources, tourism groups, hunting groups, businesses and other groups with ties to public land.
"In previous sessions, I have worked hard to preserve our public land," Leising said. “This meeting gave us insight on how public land benefits our economy and what we can do to better protect it. This is a very important aspect of the economy in our state, and we will continue to study this topic further in the coming weeks."
