Charbonneau: Hoosiers can request up to $5,000 from State Disaster Relief Fund

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STATEHOUSE (Aug. 18, 2026) — Eligible Hoosiers can now request up to $5,000 from the State Disaster Relief Fund following the recent devastating storms across Indiana, said State Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso).

The recent destructive storms across the state have displaced many Hoosier families. Through the State Disaster Relief Fund, Hoosiers in need of assistance can request up to $5,000 in emergency aid grants to help replace basic items like food and clothing. Disaster Relief Fund applications can also be submitted by calling 211 or through the in.gov/dhs website.

The state is collecting damage reports from Hoosiers through Indiana 211. This information will be used to analyze and determine recovery needs. Hoosier families in need of assistance may also call Indiana 211 to be connected to local resources and services.

“The recent storms in northwest and central Indiana have been heartbreaking to witness, and my heart is with all who have been impacted,” Charbonneau said. "As we begin to recover, I want to share this information to help Hoosiers who are in need of assistance. In times like this, it is important to come together, help our neighbors and remember safety is our top priority."

The governor has activated emergency SNAP benefit replacements for eligible recipients who lost food due to the storms. Affected Hoosiers will need to submit an affidavit for replacement benefits. The affidavit must be submitted within 10 days of the event, and the loss must be verified. The document may be uploaded to the FSSA Benefits Portal or dropped off at any Division of Family Resources’ office.
