FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEHOUSE (Aug. 19, 2026) — State Sen. Daryl Schmitt (R-Jasper) encourages Pike County residents impacted by the recent severe weather to report any damage to Indiana 211.
Residents can call 866-211-9966 or visit the Indiana 211 website at on.IN.gov/IN-211.
"Last week, I toured the damage caused by a tornado in Winslow," Schmitt said. "I'm incredibly grateful for the first responders, local officials, utility crews, volunteers and residents who are working together to help their neighbors during this difficult time and ask anyone with damage to report it to help the state better understand what we can do to help."
Assessing the damage allows the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to determine damage estimates and develop the next course of action for disaster recovery.
Hoosiers who need financial assistance to get basics like food and clothing can apply for help through the State Disaster Relief Fund, which can provide up to $5,000 in emergency aid grants to eligible Hoosiers.
Schmitt also encourages residents to beware of scammers who prey on disaster survivors.
Locals should be careful who they share personal information with and only use trusted and licensed businesses for repair work. Residents are also reminded that government staffers will always have an official ID and never ask for money.
"The recent tornados and record flooding have made this summer a difficult time for Hoosiers across the state," Schmitt said. "As we continue through the recovery process, I believe we will all come together to help our neighbors through this challenging time."
Schmitt can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Schmitt or by phone at 800-382-9467.
