Messmer: Communities in Senate District 48 receive more than $9 million in road-funding grants

STATEHOUSE (April 13, 2023) — Communities in Senate District 48 will receive more than $9 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said State Sen. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since its enactment, the program has awarded more than $1.27 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 48, the following communities received grants:

• Cannelton received $128,342.25;
• Dale received $331,417.49;
• Dubois County received $984,801.42;
• English received $73,126.50;
• Ferdinand received $282,140.30;
• Gibson County received $1 million;
• Huntingburg received $73,501.87;
• Jasper received $361,920.93;
• Marengo received $437,740.50;
• Oakland City received $428,841.60;
• Owensville received $157,760.60;
• Pike County received $989,986.50;
• Perry County received $1 million;
• Petersburg received $181,883.38;
• Princeton received $305,842.79;
• Rockport received $680,180.23;
• Spencer County received $1 million; and
• Tell City received $666,144.16.

"The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program allows communities throughout Indiana to improve more roads with local and state money," Messmer said. "I believe good infrastructure helps attract new developments and residents to a community, and I commend local leaders for taking advantage of this funding opportunity."

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.

The CCMG offers two rounds of applications each year, with the next call for applications occurring in July of 2023.
