Applications are now open for the Indiana Senate Republican Caucus internship program for the 2022 legislative session. This includes opportunities for interns to serve in the Senate Majority Communications Office as a press secretary or multimedia intern.

Press secretary interns work alongside their assigned press secretary and respond to the media needs of their Senators.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Writing and editing columns, op-eds and press releases on key legislation;
  • Creating e-communications and social media strategies;
  • Working with members of the media to coordinate interviews;
  • Photographing members during session and committees; and
  • Monitoring online streaming of committees.

Quinton Hayes, who served as a press secretary intern during the 2020 session and now serves full-time as a press secretary, offered the following on his internship experience:

"When applying for this internship, I didn't expect the overwhelmingly positive impact it would have on my life. The internship put me in situations that were out of my comfort zone, which ultimately made me grow as a person. I wish I could go back and thank myself for applying."

In addition to fulfilling the press secretary intern roles, multimedia interns serve as Senate photographer and videographer.

Multimedia interns also assist in website management and have the opportunity to develop their graphic design skills by creating visual content for print and web.

Kristen Gorski, who served as a multimedia intern during the 2020 session and now works full-time as a digital communications specialist and press secretary, offered the following on her experience:

"Being a multimedia intern in the Indiana Senate was a great experience. It allowed me to expand my skill base, as well as lean new things in my field and about state government. This opportunity has been like no other, and I would highly recommend it to any hardworking student looking for that next step into the workforce."

The internship program runs from the end of December 2021 through mid-March 2022 and is open to college and graduate students, as well as recent graduates.
