Intern with the Indiana Senate Republicans

Intern with the Indiana Senate Republicans

Monday, July 15, 2024

The Indiana Senate Republican Caucus is accepting internship applications for the 2025 legislative session.

The internship gives young professionals a great opportunity to learn about state government and the craft of policymaking as well as engage in their community, build their network and gain insight on how the legislative process works.

Candidates must be at least a college sophomore, recent college graduate, graduate student or law school student, and all majors are welcome to apply.

Participants will have the opportunity to work alongside legislators and conduct many of the daily tasks full-time staff members complete during a legislative session.

Available positions are listed below with descriptions.

  • Communications (Press Secretary): The press secretary internship pairs interns with a full-time press secretary to work with senators and local media outlets to communicate via press releases and op-eds. These interns also help create e-communication and social media strategies.
  • Information Technology (IT): The IT internship is for those interested in technology and cybersecurity. IT interns work with senators and staff to address technology needs and troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
  • Legal: Legal interns are responsible for conducting legal and policy research. Interns help draft and file Senate motions as well as summarize amendments and conference committee reports.
  • Legislative: The legislative internship pairs interns with a full-time legislative assistant who serves under one or two state senators to track and analyze bills throughout the legislative process, provide constituent services, staff Senate committee hearings and conduct legislative and policy research.
  • Page: Interns in the page program will work with students, teaching them Indiana history, fun facts and workings of the legislative process. Page program interns assist in the daily operations of the Indiana Senate Page Program like facilitating students' experience in the Senate Chamber during session.
  • Policy: The policy internship is an extension of the Senate Republican policy team. Policy interns will track legislative proposals, review communication for policy accuracy and write memos on legislation.

Interns earn a $900 biweekly stipend and benefit from scholarship and academic credit opportunities, professional development, community involvement and networking.

Senate internships are full-time positions at the Statehouse in Indianapolis that typically start with a mandatory orientation in late December or early January and conclude at the end of the 2025 legislative session in April.

The deadline to apply for the internship program is Oct. 31.
