Senate Republicans are seeking interns for the 2027 legislative session.

This internship is a unique opportunity for young professionals to see how state government works by participating in the legislative process and the daily operations of the Indiana General Assembly.

This is a full-time, in-person spring semester internship at the Statehouse in Indianapolis that typically begins in late December or early January and concludes at the end of the 2027 legislative session, which by law must end on or before April 29.

Who can apply?

Internships are open to undergraduate sophomores, juniors and seniors. Recent college graduates, graduate and law students are also encouraged to apply. All majors are accepted – internship placements span across a variety of interests and skills.

Internship Benefits

  • Interns earn a $900 biweekly stipend.
  • Interns may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university.
  • Interns may apply for academic scholarships through the Verizon Communications and Senator David Ford Scholarship Funds.

Internship Positions

  • Press Secretary: Interns will pair with a full-time press secretary to work with senators and local media outlets to communicate via press releases and op-eds. These interns also help create e-communication and social media strategies.
  • Information Technology (IT): IT interns work with senators and staff to address technology needs and troubleshoot hardware and software issues. Interns operate webcasts and recordings of Senate committees.
  • Legal: Legal interns are responsible for conducting legal and policy research. Interns help draft and file Senate motions as well as summarize amendments and conference committee reports.
  • Legislative: Interns will pair with a full-time legislative assistant who serves under one or two state senators to track and analyze bills throughout the legislative process, provide constituent services, staff Senate committee hearings and conduct legislative and policy research.
  • Page Program: Page program interns assist in the daily operations of the Indiana Senate Page Program and facilitate students' experience in the Senate Chamber during session. They also teach students Indiana history, fun facts and the workings of the legislative process.
  • Policy: Interns will track legislative proposals, review communications for policy accuracy and help write memos on legislation.
  • Multimedia: Multimedia interns work with the communications team to create visual content for print and web. Interns also serve as session photographers and videographers and assist in website management.
