As Indiana continues to invest in resources to support growth for our students’ proficiency in reading and math, one key resource now available to Hoosier students and families is the Indiana Learns grant program. These grants provide eligible students with up to $1,000 for tutoring and approved learning services, helping them strengthen reading and math skills.
Programs like Indiana Learns support the recent efforts Senate Republicans have championed to improve K-12 education. Over the last two budget cycles, Senate Republicans supported $2.4 billion in increased tuition support and legislation focused on improving literacy rates with evidence-based instruction. These investments are producing results in classrooms across the state.
Indiana students are now making some of the biggest academic accomplishments in the nation. According to recent data, Indiana's third graders have achieved the largest increase in reading proficiency our state has seen since the launch of IREAD in 2013. Recent data also shows fourth and eighth grade reading scores have risen, ranking them sixth in the country.
Senate Republicans have also prioritized competitive teacher pay by requiring schools to direct more funding toward teacher salaries and ensuring a minimum teacher salary of $45,000.
As Indiana continues having academic success, programs like Indiana Learns help ensure students receive targeted support that strengthens foundational skills inside and outside of the classroom.
Enrollment is open through Friday, Dec. 19, and families can begin scheduling tutoring sessions immediately.
