STATEHOUSE (March 11, 2026) — Senate Republicans have supported the passage of several laws championed by State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle) in recent years that provide significant tax cuts for Hoosiers.
In the past two years, Holdman has authored and sponsored bills that are expected to save Hoosiers more than $1 billion.
In 2025, he authored Senate Enrolled Act 1, which provided a historic $1.3 billion in property tax relief for Hoosier homeowners. This year, he built upon this work by sponsoring House Enrolled Act 1210, which continues the work of SEA 1 by furthering property tax relief specifically for veterans. Totally disabled veterans will not pay any property tax on their homesteads, and this policy is expected to save these homeowners $27 million per year. Partially disabled veterans are also expected to save $19 million as HEA 1210 switches deductions to more generous credits and removes any assessed value limit for a home to qualify.
"America's veterans dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom," Holdman said. "It is an honor to champion legislation to help veterans who risked their lives so that we may live freely. They deserve to save their hard-earned money."
Holdman was also the author of Senate Enrolled Act 243 this year to couple Indiana's tax code with the federal One Big Beautiful Bill with regard to no tax on tips, no tax on overtime and no tax on loan interest for American-made vehicles in 2026. SEA 243 is expected to save Hoosiers more than $200 million on their 2026 state and local taxes.
"Cutting taxes and keeping money in Hoosiers' pockets has been a priority of mine for years," Holdman said. "We have cut taxes more than 30 times in 10 years, and this legislation continues those efforts by allowing eligible workers and families to receive the same tax relief at the state level that they're seeing federally. I am proud to have led this effort on behalf of our hardworking Hoosier taxpayers."
These two laws come on the heels of other initiatives authored by Holdman that are reducing Indiana's income tax to one of the lowest rates in the country. The cuts, which are phasing in annually until the rate hits 2.9% in 2027, are expected to save Hoosiers $2 billion in the first five years.
