STATEHOUSE (Aug. 20, 2026) – Area legislators are recognizing the latest local recipients of the Hoosier Homestead Award, which recognizes farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.
Represented by State Sen. Brett Clark (R-Avon) and State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton), the Chatham-Layne-McNulty farm in Hendricks County was honored at the Indiana State Fair with a Centennial Award.
The Hoosier Homestead Award Program honors families who have made significant contributions to Indiana agriculture. Instituted in 1976, the program has recognized more than 6,000 family farms that have impacted Indiana's economic, cultural and social advancement.
"Indiana has a strong agricultural legacy. Family owned or operated farms, like the Chatham-Layne-McNulty farm, are the backbone of this legacy and the state's economic success,” Clark said. “The tireless efforts of Hoosier farmers often go unnoticed, but this award ceremony puts the spotlight on their efforts to support our state. I congratulate the Chatham-Layne-McNulty farm on their Centennial Award and appreciate their work to support Hoosiers."
"There are so many Hoosiers continuing the tradition in this state of running a family farm," Thompson said. "Through their efforts, Indiana remains a leader in the agricultural industry, generating billions of dollars in economic activity and providing food and other essentials for countless Americans."
To be named a Hoosier Homestead, farms must be owned by the same family for at least 100 consecutive years and consist of more than 20 acres or produce more than $1,000 of agricultural products per year. The award distinctions are centennial, sesquicentennial and bicentennial – for 100, 150 and 200 years, respectively.
