BYRNE MEMORIALZES JACOB T. MCCLANAHAN AT ROAD RENAMING CEREMONY: State Sen. Gary Byrne (R-Byrneville) memorializes Jacob T. McClanahan at a road renaming ceremony alongside U.S., state and local government officials, and the Harrison County community Saturday, July 8. The ceremony installed a road sign in honor of McClanahan on State Road 135, with the memorial mile stretching from School Lane toward Palmyra.
McClanahan was selflessly assisting a Palmyra police officer with a stranded motorist and tragically passed after being senselessly shot by the motorist. Requested on behalf of the Harrison County community, council and commissioners, Byrne authored Senate Concurrent Resolution 6 during the 2023 legislative session to propose the road renaming.
