FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEHOUSE (April 30, 2026) – State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) is urging Gov. Mike Braun to not only continue the state's current gas tax holiday beyond May 8 but also suspend the 36 cents per gallon state excise tax on gas.
"Hoosiers across the state are hurting with the recent surge in gas prices, and many of our neighbors are having to make tough decisions to make ends meet," Alting said. "Suspending these taxes will give residents of Senate District 22 much-needed relief at the pump, and I believe it's something that must be done."
Alting will also be working with the Indiana Attorney General's office to ensure local gas stations do not price gouge the cost of gas.
"Suspending these gas taxes are meant to save Hoosiers money, and I encourage anyone in Senate District 22 who believes a station is price gouging to contact the Attorney General's office and file a complaint," Alting said.
Anyone wanting to file a complaint can contact the AG's Consumer Protection Division at 800-382-5516.
Alting encourages residents of Senate District 22 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Alting can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Alting or by phone at 800-382-9467.
