STATEHOUSE (Aug. 12, 2026) — State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) recently presented a bridge renaming resolution to honor Abby Williams and Libby German to the Interim Committee on Roads and Transportation.
The resolution would rename the U.S. 421/State Road 18/State Road 39 bridge over Deer Creek in honor of Abby Williams and Libby German, two eighth graders at Delphi Community Middle School who were tragically murdered in Delphi on Feb. 13, 2017.
Both girls were incredibly active in their communities and their schools and were well-liked.
"Abby and Libby were two kind-hearted girls that were taken too soon from our community," Alting said. "This resolution will ensure they are never forgotten and their spirits will live on in Delphi. Every time someone drives over that bridge, they will think of Abby and Libby."
Alting worked with several Carroll County residents, as well as the Carroll County Commissioner Scott Ayers and Delphi Mayor Kamron Yates, on this resolution to honor Abby and Libby.
"I'd like to thank everyone who worked with me for finding a way to honor these two young ladies," Alting said. "Their hard work throughout this process shows their commitment to preserving Abby’s and Libby’s memories."
