FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEHOUSE (Jan. 15, 2026) — A bill authored by State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) that would ban vaping products manufactured in foreign adversarial nations like China from being sold in Indiana unanimously passed the Senate Committee on Public Policy Wednesday, Jan. 14.
Senate Bill 185 would protect Hoosiers from ingesting dangerous chemicals added to vaping products in nations that want to do Americans harm.
"Recently, Trump administration officials like U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have expressed serious concern about illegal vaping products being smuggled into the country from China," Alting said. "Not only do these products have illegal chemicals in them – China bans them for their own citizens but allows the products to be sent to the United States. That's why I've partnered with the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission to ban these products from China and other foreign adversaries."
The bill now moves to the Senate Committee on Appropriations for further consideration.
Alting encourages residents of Senate District 22 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Alting can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Alting or by phone at 800-382-9467.
