Zay: Indiana National Guard heads to Texas this week

STATEHOUSE (March 27, 2024) — This week, members of the Indiana National Guard will depart to Texas in efforts to protect the nation's southern border.

A departure ceremony at Camp Atterbury is scheduled for Thursday, March 28, starting at 9:30 a.m. Several state officials will be in attendance, including Gov. Eric Holcomb and Maj. Gen. Dale Lyles, both of whom are scheduled to speak at the ceremony.

"It's important that all Hoosiers stand with our brave men and women as they make their departure to Texas," Zay said. "The Biden Administration's careless open-border policies have put our country at extreme risk, but I am proud that our state is standing up against these policies and joining forces with Texas to ensure that our borders are protected. I thank our guardsmen for their dedication to keeping our country and communities safe."

In February, Zay sent a letter to Gov. Holcomb encouraging the deployment of our National Guardsmen to the southern border. Zay is in full support of the decision by the governor and hopes that this decision by our state will lead to other states joining in efforts to secure our nation's border.
