Walker Presents Five-Term Lawrence Clerk
Sagamore of the Wabash Award

LAWRENCE (Feb. 6, 2024) — State Sen. Kyle Walker (R-Lawrence), on behalf of Gov. Eric Holcomb, presented former Lawrence Clerk Kathy Walton with a Sagamore of the Wabash award for her 27 years of dedicated service to the City of Lawrence on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Kathy Walton has been a resident of the City of Lawrence for more than 50 years and served the city for 27 of those years. She was elected in 2003 as the first City Clerk after the City of Lawrence became a second-class city. Walton was re-elected by the voters of Lawrence in 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019. In 2016, Walton became the only clerk in Indiana who earned the Master Municipal Clerk Certification.

“Kathy embodies what it means to be a community servant," Walker said. "It was an honor to present Kathy with one of the state’s highest honors - the Sagamore of the Wabash award. She is a shining example of hard work, dedication and loyalty."

Nearly 100 people gathered to honor Walton, including former Lawrence Mayor Steve Collier and former Lawrence Clerk-Treasurer Etta Sweat.

Walton graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1973 and Indiana University-Purdue University in 1978 where she earned her degree in business administration.
