$61 Million Awarded in Education Grants

This week, Gov. Holcomb announced the recipients of $61 million in grants through the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief fund to improve remote learning in Indiana in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This funding will help school corporations that are providing remote education by improving connectivity and increasing the number of devices available to students and teachers.

These grants will fund more than 68,000 student devices, nearly 2,900 teacher devices and more than 85,800 connectivity solutions, according to the information provided by applicants. Nearly 674,500 students are enrolled in the schools receiving these grants.

Additionally, 12 institutions of higher education will receive more than $11 million to fund specialized training initiatives to better support parents, families, students with special needs and English learners and provide social-emotional learning resources during virtual/remote learning. The initiatives are designed to directly assist K-12 teachers, including targeted professional development opportunities for e-learning, curated curriculum content and technical assistance in implementing online curriculum. These resources will be made available at no cost to Indiana K-12 teachers.
