STATEHOUSE (Aug. 20, 2026) – Area legislators are recognizing the latest local recipients of the Hoosier Homestead Award, which recognizes farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.
Represented by State Sen. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville) and State Rep. Wendy McNamara (R-Evansville), the Allyn farm in Posey County was honored with a Centennial, Sesquicentennial and Bicentennial Award at the Indiana State Fair.
The Hoosier Homestead Award Program honors families who have made significant contributions to Indiana agriculture. Instituted in 1976, the program has recognized more than 6,000 family farms that have impacted Indiana's economic, cultural and social advancement.
"It is truly incredible that the Allyn family farm has been operating since the very beginning of Indiana's statehood and witnessed two centuries of our history," Tomes said. "This milestone shows great dedication and resilience through generations. I congratulate the Allyn family for this well-deserved recognition and sincerely thank them for their continued contributions to our great state."
"We need farmers, like the Allyns, who have demonstrated incredible determination, perseverance, and dedication to their land and communities," McNamara said. "For generations, they have worked hard to preserve our agricultural heritage while helping make Indiana the agricultural powerhouse it is today. The Hoosier Homestead Award is a meaningful way to recognize and celebrate the legacy these families are building for future generations."
To be named a Hoosier Homestead, farms must be owned by the same family for at least 100 consecutive years and consist of more than 20 acres or produce more than $1,000 of agricultural products per year. The award distinctions are centennial, sesquicentennial and bicentennial – for 100, 150 and 200 years, respectively.
