Statement: Sen. Deery calls on Gov. Braun to temporarily suspend tax on gas

STATEHOUSE (April 8, 2026) – "Hoosier families were already getting squeezed at the grocery store, and now they are feeling it at the gas pump too.

"That's why I stand with State Sen. Travis Holdman in calling for the governor to temporarily suspend the tax on gas. Now is the time to do everything we can to provide tax relief for Indiana families, and this suspension would be making a real difference. Simply put, Hoosier families need this money more than the government does.

"As a state senator, I have voted for lower property taxes, lower income taxes, and most recently supported additional tax relief by ending the state's income tax on tips and overtime for 2026. Suspending this gas tax is one more relief measure that we should embrace until prices at the pump come down so Hoosiers can afford to get to work and live their lives."
