Statement from State Sen. Jeff Raatz

State Sen. Jeff Raatz (R-Richmond) made the following statement today regarding the
Richmond warehouse fire:

STATEHOUSE (April 12, 2023) – "The Richmond community continues to grapple with the aftereffects of a large-scale warehouse fire.

"I have been in communication with local and state agencies and emergency personnel investigating the site. While the fire has been contained and air/water quality samples taken outside of the evacuation zone have not indicated any dangerous levels of compounds, residents are still advised to avoid the area. As of now, there is no timetable established for when the evacuation order will be lifted to ensure our community's safety.

"I visited the area yesterday, taking the necessary safety precautions, and was pleased to learn there weren't any significant injuries reported. That is thanks to the cooperation and efforts of state, local and surrounding emergency personnel who worked swiftly to protect our community. It was heartening to see the community come together to support our firefighters and police officers, and I continue to thank the men and women helping those in need evacuate and have access to safe shelter, water and food.

"If you were asked to evacuate and are in need of assistance, volunteers and American Cross members at Oak Park Pentecostal Church are offering shelter to displaced residents in need. You may also call 2-1-1 to learn more about local resources."
