Statement from State Sen. Dan Dernulc 1/10/23

State Sen. Dan Dernulc (R-Highland) made the following statement today in response to Gov. Eric Holcomb’s 2023 State of the State address:

STATEHOUSE (Jan. 10, 2023) – "I was impressed to hear all of the accomplishments our state has achieved in recent years and the goals the governor has in mind going forward. It was also encouraging that his initiatives involved investing more in Indiana classrooms, state police and the mental health of Hoosiers.

"We need to invest in the future of our state, and that starts with the youngest Hoosiers. I am hopeful we will improve our education system this legislative session, and I look forward to working on the Senate Committee on Education and Career Development to help in this pursuit.

"I am excited to hear the initiative of investing more in state police, as it is a step in the right direction. They are the ones that protect and serve Hoosiers on a daily basis and they should be supported in that effort. I hope we can extend this idea further to include all police in the future, so we can bring more light to all who protect and serve our great state.

"Finally, we are actively working to improve the infrastructure for the mental health of Hoosiers, and it was positive to see the governor's support in his call to significantly increase the funding for mental health. Indiana is moving in the right direction when it comes to protecting the mental health of Hoosiers and I look forward to seeing the impact we make in the coming months on this issue."
