I have some great news to share. A recent study ranked Indiana the ninth most affordable state in the nation – much better than our neighboring states of Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio. We have worked hard at the state level to achieve this distinction to improve affordability, and I believe this is something we can celebrate!
The annual survey was conducted by the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center and was recently published in Newsweek magazine.
How did we do it?
We cut the state income tax, making it one of the lowest in the nation. We made the largest tax cut in Indiana history by cutting billions in property taxes so Hoosiers can stay in their homes. We urged the governor to suspend the gas tax and make diesel fuel more affordable for farmers – and he did. We cut burdensome regulations on homebuilders to increase the availability of affordable housing.
While this is good news and we are better off, we are not out of the woods. We will continue to work to cut spending and lower taxes and make your cost of living even lower. I work for you, and every single day I’m looking for new ways I can help Hoosiers who are pinching every last penny to make ends meet. Just like you, I want Indiana to remain a great state to live, work and raise a family.
