Statement from State Sen. Brian Buchanan

State Sen. Brian Buchanan (R-Lebanon) made the following statement regarding the conclusion of the 2024 legislative session:

STATEHOUSE (March 8, 2024) – "Today we concluded our legislative session by passing important legislation that would strengthen Indiana's public retirement system.

"House Enrolled Act 1004 would provide a 1% annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for many public retirees who retire after July 1, 2025 and a 13th check for those who retire before the date.

"The bill would also allow for a 13th check to be provided to public retirees in 2024.

"Public retirees like state police officers, teachers and retired state employees dedicated their careers to public service, and I am pleased to see the General Assembly find a more permanent fix to providing more money to our retired public workforce.

"I am also happy to see House Enrolled Act 1093 and Senate Enrolled Act 146 – both of which would allow more teenagers to work and earn more money – headed to the governor's desk for final consideration.

"While the 2024 legislative session has ended, my work as a legislator will continue in the months ahead, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to discuss to make Indiana an even better state for all Hoosiers."
