Statement from State Sen. Aaron Freeman

STATEHOUSE (March 27, 2019) – “I am pleased the House of Representatives Committee on Courts and Criminal Code passed Senate Bill 243 today. SB 243 would provide Hoosiers with a recourse for prosecution when intimate photos are shared without their consent.

“We live in a world today where, unfortunately, many individuals are taken advantage of when intimate photos are shared without their knowledge. Under current law, these victims are left with no recourse, but SB 243 would change that. This legislation would make it a Class A misdemeanor if a person distributes an intimate photo of another individual without consent, in addition to increasing the penalty for repeat offenders to a Level 6 felony.

“Protecting Hoosiers is always a top priority for me and, if passed, this legislation would provide the measures necessary to help citizens defend themselves.”
