Statement from Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray 4.3.2020

Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville) made the following statement today on the joint letter from all three branches of government sent to local criminal justice leaders regarding the impact of COVID-19 on detention facilities:

STATEHOUSE (April 3, 2020) – “The COVID-19 pandemic is causing Hoosiers to rethink how we do many things, and incarcerating inmates is no exception. As such, all three branches of Indiana government have come together to provide some guidance on how to deal with this particular challenge.

“Unfortunately, the close quarters that exist in a jail or prison create an excellent environment for the virus to spread, and we believe local law enforcement officials should have the flexibility they need to take the steps they deem appropriate to balance the health of Hoosiers and public safety.”
