State Sen. Jeff Raatz (R-Richmond) made the following statement regarding the conclusion of the 2025 legislative session:
STATEHOUSE (April 25, 2025) – "The General Assembly concluded the 2025 legislative session today, which has been an extremely important one for education in Indiana. Despite receiving a concerning revenue forecast earlier this month predicting a $2.4 billion shortfall, our balanced state budget increases K-12 tuition support over the biennium for all public schools compared to 2025 by $340 million in 2026 and $620 million in 2027. The budget also makes all Indiana students eligible for the Indiana Choice Scholarship in 2027.
"We also saw significant increases in student reading scores nationally thanks to our work on the Science of Reading in previous years and our excellent teachers implementing new curriculum, and the finalization of a new high school diploma will give students the opportunity to be automatically accepted into Indiana's public universities.
"I also authored several pieces of legislation to raise teacher salaries, help schools retain teachers in high-need fields like STEM, ensure homeschooled students cannot be discriminated against, improve career coaching and much more.
"I look forward to spending this interim hearing from constituents on how to continue to improve our educational system and make Indiana a better place to live, learn, work and raise a family."
