By State Sen. Daryl Schmitt (R-Jasper)
After nearly four months of working with constituents, colleagues and stakeholders, the Indiana General Assembly adjourned Sine Die on April 25, meaning the 2025 session has now formally ended.
The end of session gives lawmakers a chance to reflect on the important work we completed this year while looking ahead to find more ways we can make Indiana even better.
With this year being a long session, one of the most important pieces of legislation we worked on is the state's next two-year budget.
This balanced budget passed the Senate with bipartisan support, one of the many bills that received votes from both sides of the aisle.
In fact, of the 243 bills that passed the General Assembly this year, more than 90% received bipartisan support and nearly half received unanimous support in the Senate.
This year was my first legislative session, and I strived to represent my neighbors and constituents to the best of my ability. That's why I authored Senate Resolution 51, which recognizes the threat our federal government's debt poses to national security.
I also co-sponsored House Enrolled Act 1149, which requires the Indiana State Department of Agriculture to create and maintain an online portal for information Hoosier farmers need to access about state and federal agriculture programs and funding opportunities.
In the weeks ahead, I plan to discuss some of the important topics we tackled this year and how it could impact southwest Indiana.
While the 2025 session has ended, work will continue to happen throughout the coming months through interim study committees and meeting with constituents.
As always, constituents can reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email at s48@iga.in.gov or by phone at 1-800-382-9467.
