State Sen. Phil Boots to Serve as Chairman of Employment and Labor Study Committee

STATEHOUSE (June 29, 2017) — State Sen. Phil Boots (R-Crawfordsville) will serve as the Chairman of the Interim Study Committee on Employment and Labor and the Interim Study Committee on Pension Management Oversight during the summer and fall months to help prepare for the 2018 session of the General Assembly. He will also serve on the following commission and council:

  • Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Compact Commission
  • Interstate Rail Passenger Advisory Council

“During the summer and fall months, we have the chance to examine relevant issues and concerns facing Indiana,” Boots said. “In the Interim Study Committee on Employment and Labor, we will be discussing ways to maintain our state’s low unemployment rate and business-friendly climate.”

When Indiana’s part-time legislature is not in session, lawmakers serve on interim study committees that meet to review the state’s top issues, as identified by the General Assembly during the prior legislative session.

Study committee topics are assigned by the bipartisan Legislative Council, comprised of 16 voting members — eight from the Senate and eight from the House of Representatives.
