STATEHOUSE (March 28, 2019) – A bill authored by State Sen. Jeff Raatz (R-Richmond) that would establish the Workforce Diploma Reimbursement Program recently passed the House Committee on Education unanimously.
Under Senate Bill 607, this program, which would be overseen by the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet (GWC) and Department of Workforce Development, would assist adult learners age 22 and above in developing employability and career and technical education skills while obtaining a high school diploma.
SB 607 would ensure the GWC only approves providers of the utmost quality.
“The Workforce Diploma Reimbursement Program would take a new approach to preparing Indiana adults for the workforce by only reimbursing providers on an outcome-basis, meaning providers would only get paid if their adult students succeed,” Raatz said. “If passed, this bill would help ensure Hoosiers obtain a high school diploma and receive the career training they need to land a successful job.”
SB 607 will now move to the full House of Representatives.
