Here in Indiana, we understand the value of higher education and want to make sure Hoosier students can receive a meaningful college education.
That's why Senate Republicans passed legislation this year to ensure colleges are preparing students for good-paying jobs by offering degree pathways that will set them up for successful, long-lasting careers.
Senate Republicans have also pushed hard to help high school students get a head start on college by offering College Core classes at over 300 high schools across the state. By completing College Core, students can earn college credits at little to no cost and save time and money by not having to take those courses in college.
Thanks to these efforts, Indiana is now No.1 in the nation for the highest percentage of high schoolers who earn early college credit, according to a recent report.
It is also important for Hoosier students to have access to an affordable education. In 2023, Senate Republicans passed a law that requires high school seniors to apply for the FAFSA, with some exceptions, so they know what funding options are available to them if they choose to go to college.
On top of this, every year Indiana holds College Goal Sunday, which is our state's largest FAFSA filing event. This year, it will be held on Oct. 4, and students and their families can get free help applying for the FAFSA at 35 sites across Indiana. As a reminder, the deadline to apply for FAFSA is April 15, 2027.
Indiana's College Go! program also starts next week with College Application Week. From Sept. 21-25, participating institutions from around the state waive their application fees so students can apply for free.
As the start of session approaches, Senate Republicans will continue to look for ways to ensure higher education is a valuable investment that sets up Hoosier students for fulfilling careers.
