Merritt Announces 2018 Medical Industry Bills

STATE HOUSE (Nov. 21, 2017) – State Sen. Jim Merritt (R-Indianapolis) today announced bills he plans to author for the 2018 legislative session.

Some of the bills will call for mandatory registration in INSPECT by all Controlled Substance Registration-holders, mandatory lockable bottles for prescription drugs, making reports of the use of Naloxone accessible to providers, and implementation of prescription take-back programs statewide.

“We have determined multiple ways we can attack the drug epidemic within the medical industry,” Merritt said. “We’re trying to make it easier for providers to know the patient’s prescription history and use of Naloxone. Doing this would assist providers in making an informed decision when prescribing opioids and harder for those prescriptions to get into the hands of those who are addicted.”
