Indiana to Expand Child Care Options

Indiana to Expand Child Care Options

Friday, August 28, 2020

Many Hoosier families are currently adapting to their children's remote learning, and as parents return to work, finding a suitable caretaker during the day can be challenging.

To combat this problem, which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Holcomb recently signed an executive order to expand child care options in Indiana.

The executive order allows school corporations to contract with youth organizations, such as the Boys and Girls Club or a YMCA, to operate child care programs outside of public school buildings in order to help families whose children need supervision while participating in e-learning.

Additionally, the order increases from six to 10 the number of school-aged children allowed to gather in a home on school days for e-learning without requiring the child care setting to be licensed.

This action aims to alleviate the stress on Hoosier families as we adapt to this new school year. By allowing schools to partner with well-known child care facilities or trusted friends, parents will be able to have peace of mind that their children are well taken care of while they are at work.
