Houchin: Washington County to receive more than $1.2 million in road-funding grants

STATEHOUSE (April 9, 2020) — Sen. Erin Houchin (R-Salem) has announced that Washington County and the town of New Pekin will receive grant funding to improve roads and bridges as part of the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, provides direct funding assistance to communities who partake in infrastructure construction and repair projects aimed at improving local roads and bridges. This partnership strengthens local transportation networks and provides Hoosiers with the quality infrastructure they need. Since it was put into place, the program has awarded more than $738 million in state matching funds for local construction projects.

During this round of grants, Washington County received $1 million, and the town of New Pekin received $247,479 from the program.

“In these challenging and uncertain times, it is critically important for us to continue supporting our local communities and providing them with the funding necessary to improve and thrive,” Houchin said. “I am grateful to see Washington County and other areas in Senate District 47 included in this round of infrastructure grants, and will continue working to ensure all of our communities have the resources they need.”

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations of greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations of greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.
