Holdman's bill championing major tax cuts for working Hoosiers heads to governor
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 25, 2026) — Senate Republicans today supported the passage of a bill championed by State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle) that would provide significant tax cuts for working Hoosiers.
Holdman, chairman of the Senate Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy, authored Senate Enrolled Act 243 to couple Indiana's tax code with the federal One Big Beautiful Bill with regard to no tax on tips, no tax on overtime and no tax on loan interest for American-made vehicles. This ensures Hoosiers eligible for those federal tax cuts will also benefit from the same tax cuts at the state level in tax year 2026.
"This legislation is about making sure Hoosiers keep more of what they earn," Holdman said. "By aligning Indiana's tax code with the federal tax relief efforts, we're able to provide hardworking Hoosier families with meaningful tax relief. I'm proud to champion this legislation as part of our ongoing work to protect taxpayers and continue Indiana's record of responsible fiscal accomplishments."
Holdman added that these cuts would apply to 2026 wages on tax returns filed in 2027 and are expected to save Hoosiers more than $200 million in state and local taxes.
SEA 243 now heads to the governor's desk for further consideration.
