Halftime at the Indiana Senate

Halftime at the Indiana Senate

Monday, February 12, 2024

The Indiana General Assembly has officially passed the midpoint of the 2024 legislative session, meaning bills that passed in their chamber of origin have moved to the other chamber for further consideration.

During the first half of session, 297 bills were introduced in the Senate and 110 passed out of the chamber.

Of these bills that passed, 88% received bipartisan support and 58% received unanimous support from Senators.

This year, Senate Republicans are prioritizing improving Hoosier students' reading skills, increasing child care access and affordability, ensuring responsible use of taxpayer dollars and upgrading lead pipes to protect Hoosiers' health.

This legislation could make vital improvements in Hoosiers' quality of life and ensure Indiana will be an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

The Senate will now start considering the 110 bills that passed out of the Indiana House of Representatives during the first half of session.

The committee deadline for House bills moving through the Senate is Feb. 29.

Conference committees, which meet to work out differences between Senate and House versions of bills, will start meeting on March 6.

By law, the General Assembly must conclude legislative business on or before March 14.
