STATEHOUSE (Nov. 6, 2023) — Communities in Senate District 13 will receive more than $6.8 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said State Sen. Sue Glick (R-LaGrange).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since its enactment, the program has awarded nearly $1.5 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 13, the following communities received grants:
  • Angola received $762,384.33;
  • Clear Lake received $825,000;
  • DeKalb County received $1 million;
  • Garrett received $743,951.25;
  • Hamilton received $523,635.93;
  • Kendallville received $334,017.76;
  • LaGrange County received $1 million;
  • Ligonier received $386,667;
  • Shipshewana received $1 million; and
  • Topeka received $243,197.50.

"It is great to see our local leaders invest in our community through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program," Glick said. "Rural areas in Indiana must provide strong roads and bridges because of the heavy use by so many travelers. I look forward to seeing how this funding will help ensure our roads and bridges are receiving proper care and improving our infrastructure overall."

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.

The CCMG offers two rounds of applications each year, with the next call for applications occurring in January of 2024.
