Garten elevated to ranking member of Senate Committee on Appropriations

STATEHOUSE (Dec. 4, 2024) – State Sen. Chris Garten (R-Charlestown) has been appointed by Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville) to serve on four committees for the 124th Indiana General Assembly.

Garten will serve as a member of the following Senate committees:

  • Appropriations, ranking member;
  • Joint Rules;
  • Rules and Legislative Procedure, ranking member; and
  • Tax and Fiscal Policy.

This session, Garten has been elevated from a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations to ranking member, meaning he will assist the chair in conducting committee business.

"As the General Assembly prepares to craft the state's next budget, I am honored to be asked to serve as ranking member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations," Garten said. "Committees give legislators a chance to hear from experts and the public on topics facing our state. I look forward to working with my colleagues to prepare the next budget and discuss tax policy on behalf of Hoosiers and ensure our state government is fiscally responsible and respect our hardworking taxpayers."

Committee hearings can be viewed online by visiting iga.in.gov. Legislative calendars, agendas, vote tallies and proposed legislation can also be found on this site.

The 2025 legislative session ceremonially began with Organization Day on Nov. 19. The Senate is scheduled to reconvene for session Jan. 8.
