Garten appointed to key Senate committees

STATEHOUSE (Dec. 21, 2020) – State Sen. Chris Garten (R-Charlestown) has been appointed by Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville) to serve in numerous key leadership roles during the 122nd Indiana General Assembly.

Garten was recently selected to serve as a part of the Republican leadership team with the position of Majority Assistant Caucus Chair.

In addition to his leadership role, Garten was appointed to the Senate Committee on Appropriations and will also serve as the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Public Policy. Garten will also serve on Senate Committees on Environmental Affairs; Homeland Security and Transportation; and Veterans Affairs and the Military.

"Sen. Garten is a great public servant with strong Hoosier values,” Bray said. “He has demonstrated sound judgement and solid leadership skills as he has grown as a state senator and I have no doubt that Chris will serve our caucus well in his new leadership role and on these essential committees."

“I am honored to serve in a leadership capacity and on each of these committees," Garten said. "I will continue to advocate for policies that keeps taxes low, gets government out of the way of picking winners and losers, and always puts Hoosiers first.”

The 2021 legislative session ceremonially began with Organization Day on Nov. 17. The Senate is scheduled to reconvene for session Jan. 4.
