In recent weeks, our local community has been upended over the novel coronavirus and the disease it causes, COVID-19. I strongly encourage residents who have been impacted to use the information and resources below.
Relief for small businesses
Gov. Eric Holcomb recently announced that Indiana small businesses are eligible for financial assistance under a designation by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
Under the program, small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and nonprofits throughout our community are eligible to apply for low-interest loans up to $2 million to help ease the temporary loss of revenue due to the COVID-19 outbreak. These loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills incurred during this public health crisis. The loan interest rates for small businesses and nonprofits are 3.75% and 2.75%, respectively, with terms up to 30 years.
To apply for working capital or to receive more information about the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program, visit www.SBA.gov/disaster, call 800-659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov with questions. The deadline to apply for a disaster loan is Dec. 18, 2020.
In addition, if you believe that you or your company have medical supplies on hand that can be used in response to the pandemic; can produce medical supplies that can be used in the response; or have any other ways to contribute, please contact covidresponse@iedc.in.gov.
Unemployment
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is accepting unemployment insurance benefits electronically at Unemployment.IN.gov. Residents who need access to a computer may call their local WorkOne sites to file their information over the phone or request an appointment. Due to safety considerations for WorkOne staff, hours at your local office may have changed and you should call ahead before going to the office.
