The Indiana State Senate is comprised of 50 districts with approximately 135,000 people in each district.

Indiana is a part-time citizen legislature that convenes for session a few months each year to consider and pass bills into law. Constituent services are provided year-round.  
  • In odd-numbered years, the Indiana General Assembly is in session from January to April. All session business must be completed by April 29.*
  • In even-numbered years, the Indiana General Assembly is in session from January to March. All session business must be completed by March 14.
*The two-year Indiana state budget is only considered during the odd-numbered years.
