Community Crossings Initiative provides nearly $100 million for local infrastructure projects

Gov. Eric Holcomb and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Commissioner Joe McGuinness recently announced 229 Indiana cities, towns and counties received a combined $99.2 million in state matching funds for local road projects.

Established in 2016 through legislation passed by the Indiana General Assembly, the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG) aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges.

This initiative serves as a key part of Indiana’s Next Level Roads program, which is a fully funded, 20-year plan to enhance Indiana’s highways and local roads. To date, Community Crossings has awarded more than $600 million in matching funds for local construction projects.

Through the program, INDOT matches up to $1 million when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations less than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations less than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations of at least 50,000 and cities and towns with populations of at least 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.

Infrastructure is vital to economic development in our state, and Community Crossings serves as a great financial resource to fund a variety of projects. The Senate Republican Caucus will continue to advocate for legislation that supports Indiana’s local communities.

An estimated $100 million will be available for communities applying during the next call for Community Crossing Applications.
