STATEHOUSE (Aug. 27, 2025) — Communities in Senate District 22 will receive nearly $25.5 million in state road funding in 2025, said State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette).
This funding to local units of government goes into their Local Road and Street Funds (LRS), Motor Vehicle Highway (MVH) Accounts and from the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG).
A breakdown of state road funding by local unit in Senate District 22 is as follows:
"As 'The Crossroads of America,' Hoosiers deserve to have well-maintained roadways whether they're driving on a state highway or a local road," Alting said. "With our network of roads and streets being interconnected with each other, I believe it's important for the state and local governments to work together to ensure our roads are safe and ready for the future, and that's why I'm proud to play my part as senator for District 22 and ensure we are helping funding get to the communities that need it."
Through the LRS funding, communities can pay for engineering, construction, maintenance and restoration of local road and street systems.
With MVH accounts, counties can pay for items like road maintenance, purchase of highway equipment and bridge painting. Cities and towns can use their MVH accounts for items like road maintenance and repair, snow removal and purchase highway equipment.
Through the CCMG program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1.5 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.
