Supporting our Veterans and Active-Duty Military

Supporting our Veterans and Active-Duty Military

Wednesday, July 9, 2025

Every day, members of the U.S. military put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms Americans enjoy. Their bravery and sacrifice support a strong and free nation.

Senate Republicans are dedicated to strengthening resources for veterans and military families across the state.

In the 2025 legislative session, the Indiana General Assembly passed House Enrolled Act 1111, which enhances benefits for members of the Indiana National Guard. This law expands eligibility for workers’ compensation, offers more medical insurance options and provides improved family benefits in the event of a line-of-duty death.

In 2024, we passed Senate Enrolled Act 15, which requires the Indiana Department of Labor to partner with the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs to distribute posters to employers outlining available veteran benefits and services.

We also passed Senate Enrolled Act 49 during the 2024 legislative session, which allows disabled veterans to hunt on the same free hunting days as youth hunters — removing barriers to outdoor recreation.

In addition, we eliminated the state income tax for active-duty military personnel, making Indiana a more attractive place for those who serve and expanded the disabled veteran property-tax deduction, increasing the number of veterans eligible for meaningful tax relief.

A full list of state and federal veteran benefits is available on the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs website here. For a list of state benefits available to veterans, and a downloadable veteran's resource guide, click here.

Let us always be reminded that freedom isn’t free — it’s earned through the selfless service of our military members.
