Supporting Hoosier veterans and service members

Tuesday, May 23, 2023

May is National Military Appreciation Month in recognition of current and former service members, as well as those who lost their lives protecting our great nation.

Although there isn't an adequate way to say thank you, Senate Republicans continuously strive to improve the lives of Hoosier veterans and active military personnel.

This year, the General Assembly passed measures to exempt all military income from state income tax starting in 2024 and provide $6 million in new funding for veteran suicide prevention and career and relocation assistance.

Additionally, a new law allows the Indiana Department of Veterans' Affairs to supply grant funding acquired through veteran license plate sales to Indiana military organizations including the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, AMVETS and Vietnam Veterans of America

When needed most, our brave service members answer the call to defend our freedoms, which is why it is important to recognize – this and every month – the sacrifices our Armed Forces make on our behalf.

As we celebrate Memorial Day this weekend, Senate Republicans offer our deepest appreciation for the men and women who gave their lives for our nation. May we never take our freedom for granted and always remember that freedom isn't free.
