Statement from State Sen. Spencer Deery

State Sen. Spencer Deery (R-West Lafayette) made the following statement today in regard to commitments from the state regarding a potential water pipeline from Tippecanoe County to Lebanon:

STATEHOUSE (Dec. 19, 2023) — "Today we learned that state officials have committed to not taking any action to advance the water pipeline project for the LEAP District in Lebanon until after the Indiana Finance Authority (IFA) completes its study, findings are independently reviewed, and the General Assembly has time to consider legislation to protect water resources.

"I have been an advocate of this approach since the beginning, and today's developments are good news for the communities I represent up and down the Wabash River. The next step is to move legislation that establishes at least basic protections against potential harms of such large water projects.

"I also have been an advocate of more dialogue and transparency, and so I am encouraged by the willingness of local and state leaders to take that advice and discuss these issues in person. This approach will lead to better policies, public trust and economic growth opportunities for all Hoosiers as we work together to protect and wisely use our water resources."
