FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
State Sen. Scott Alexander (R-Muncie) made the following statement regarding the conclusion of the 2026 legislative session:
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 27, 2026) – "The General Assembly officially concluded the 2026 legislative session today, and I am happy to see the Senate Republicans pass our priorities, including landmark welfare reform aimed at ending waste, fraud and abuse in the system.
"The legislature also passed laws aimed at safety and security, like a bill that gives our police the tools necessary to combat illegal immigration in our communities.
"We passed essential affordability efforts aimed at lowering Hoosiers' energy bills and making housing more affordable in Indiana. We also passed a bill that would eliminate state taxes on tips and overtime.
"The General Assembly also passed legislation protecting our children, including a bill I authored that would protect minors from THC and vaping products that passed unanimously in both the House and the Senate through the entire legislative process, and a bill that would codify a foster youth bill of rights that summarizes the rights and responsibilities afforded to foster youth in Indiana.
"I am proud of everything we were able to accomplish this session, and I look forward to working in our community during the interim to continue to find ways to make Indiana an even better place to live."
