Statement from State Sen. Mike Gaskill

State Sen. Mike Gaskill (R-Pendleton) made the following statement regarding Gov. Braun's call for a special session:

STATEHOUSE (Oct. 28, 2025) – "I applaud Gov. Braun for his announcement this morning that he is calling a special session of the legislature to address timely issues relating to the redrawing of congressional districts and to the realigning of Indiana’s income tax code with federal tax law after the changes in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

"For too long, Indiana’s representation in congress has been watered down by the actions of other states such as Illinois, California, Maryland and others. By supporting the counting of illegal immigrants in our census and by drawing districts that either severely minimize or completely eliminate Republican representation altogether, they have not only thwarted the will of the majority of Hoosiers but of the entire country. What’s worse is that elected officials in many of these states are openly encouraging their residents to interfere with and rebel against the enforcement of federal law within their borders.

"I respect my Republican colleagues who have come to a different conclusion, but in light of the actions taken by these other states, I see only two choices: We can either surrender, or we can fight back. On behalf of my constituents, my friends and my family, I choose the latter."
