State Sen. Jim Merritt (R-Indianapolis) made the following statement today regarding his amendment to Senate Bill 248:
STATE HOUSE (Feb. 18, 2019) — “Today, my amendment to Senate Bill 248 was accepted by the full Senate, which removes Marion County from the bill. Given the unique city-county governance structure, IMPD stood to lose nearly $13 million as the bill was written.
“IMPD is heavily relied upon to fight the ongoing public safety crisis in Indianapolis, and they cannot afford to lose this money, which this amendment corrects.”
